What it's for

Verify, disclose, protect. The three things every policy in this area comes down to — turned into worksheets and a record you keep as you go.

What's inside

  1. Map what you already do — An honest inventory of every use and the risk attached to each.
  2. Capture the rules — Institution, supervisor, venue, funder and your data obligations — quoted and dated.
  3. Draw the line per task — Ten tasks with their typical position, and your decision for each one.
  4. The data gate — What may never be pasted in, decided before you are in a hurry.
  5. Prompts that hold up — Prompt anatomy, guardrail phrases, and a log for the outputs you kept.
  6. Literature and citations — The fabricated-reference problem, the signs, and the verification that ends it.
  7. Code and analysis support — The checks that stand between generated code and a wrong result.
  8. Writing and language support — Where polish becomes generation, and what to re-check after any edit.
  9. Verify what you keep — One verification system, by output type, with the evidence to keep.
  10. Build the disclosure — A statement skeleton, the threshold test, and where it belongs.
  11. Accountability and self-audit — The oversight log, the ethics questions, and the bias check.
  12. Your standing policy — Decide once, in calm conditions, what you permit yourself on the next project.

Swipe cards — the rules, formulas and phrasings worth keeping beside you, on one page to cut out.

Who it's for

It endorses no tool and names none. It is a method for finding the rules that apply to you and keeping the record they require.

From the author

Companion to The AI Research Assistant Workbook (Mastering Research Series), by Dr. Rafiq Muhammad, MD, PhD.

The kit is the worksheet layer; the workbook adds the method, the worked examples and the field notes behind each step.

Frequently asked questions

Does it tell me what is allowed?

No — your institution, ethics approval, funder and target venue do, and they differ. The kit captures those rules in their own words and holds your decisions against them.

Will it name which tools to use?

No. It works in categories rather than brands, so it stays correct as products change, and it takes no position on any vendor.

Is disclosure always required?

No, and the threshold sheet is there for exactly that question. Language correction is usually treated differently from generated content — but the policy that binds you decides, not the kit.

Is this an anti-AI kit?

No. It assumes responsible use and builds the record that makes it defensible: what you used, what you verified, and what you told people.
