Terms of Service

Last updated: 2026-05-04

These terms cover your use of GradSummit’s software products — Chrome extensions and other apps developed and operated by GradSummit (collectively, “the Software”). By installing any of the Software or purchasing a subscription, you agree to these terms.

The terms below have two parts: generic clauses that apply to every product (license, refunds, warranties, liability, etc.), and per-product blocks within Sections 3, 4, and 6 covering pricing, service-availability quirks, and acceptable-use specifics for each product. Future products will be added as new per-product blocks; the generic framework stays the same.

Books in the Mastering Research series are sold by Amazon under Amazon’s terms; these terms do not apply to book purchases.

1. License grant

Subject to these terms and any active subscription required by the specific product, GradSummit grants you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Software for your own academic and professional research work. You may install the Software on multiple browsers and machines tied to your own use.

2. Restrictions

You may not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code of the Software beyond what is permitted by applicable law (note: source code for individual products may be published openly, in which case this restriction is moot for those products);
  • Resell, redistribute, sublicense, or otherwise commercialize the Software or your license keys;
  • Share your license key with other users — each license is for a single individual;
  • Use the Software to violate any third-party terms of service (for example, the terms of Google Docs, Overleaf, Microsoft Word for the web, or any other platform integrated with the Software).

3. Subscriptions and payment

GradSummit software products may be offered as one-time purchases, recurring subscriptions, or free with optional paid upgrades. Payments are processed by Stripe; your card details are handled by Stripe under their terms and never seen or stored by GradSummit. Subscriptions auto-renew at the end of each billing period unless cancelled. You may cancel any subscription at any time via the link in your activation email or by emailing support@gradsummit.com; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Specific pricing and billing details for each product:

Citation Gap Finder

Offered as a recurring subscription: $9 USD per month or $59 USD per year (annual saves $49 vs. paying monthly). A 14-day free trial is included; no credit card required to start the trial. Full functionality is available during the trial.

[Future product]

Pricing and subscription terms for future GradSummit products will be added here when launched.

4. Refunds

The following refund policy applies to all GradSummit subscription products unless a per-product block below specifies otherwise:

  • During the free trial period: nothing to refund — the trial is free.
  • After the first paid period: refund requests within 7 days of the most recent charge are honoured, no questions asked. Email support@gradsummit.com with the email address on file.
  • After 7 days: refunds are at our discretion.

One-time-purchase products (if and when introduced) will state their own refund window in their per-product block.

5. Service availability

We aim for high availability of any backend service required by the Software (license validation, payment processing, etc.) but offer no specific uptime SLA. Most GradSummit products are designed to keep working offline for a short grace period if backend services are temporarily unavailable.

Each product depends on third-party platforms or APIs whose stability is outside our control. Per-product notes on these dependencies:

Citation Gap Finder

Depends on the DOM structure of Google Docs, Overleaf, and Microsoft Word for the web for citation extraction, and on the Cloudflare Workers license-validation endpoint. If a vendor substantially changes their internal structures, the extension may temporarily stop working on the affected platform until we ship an update. License validation is cached locally for 7 days with an additional 7-day offline grace period (total 14 days), so brief outages do not interrupt usage.

[Future product]

Service-availability notes for future products will be added here.

6. Acceptable use

You agree to use any GradSummit software product only on content and resources you have a legitimate right to access. You are responsible for verifying that automated outputs from the Software (citation reports, AI-assisted suggestions, etc., depending on the product) are correct before relying on them in published or submitted work.

Per-product acceptable-use specifics:

Citation Gap Finder

The extension reads your active document only when you click Run Check; it does not read content automatically or in the background. The extension’s report is an automated suggestion. You remain responsible for verifying citations and references in your work — we recommend reviewing each flagged item against your manuscript before submitting to a journal or institution.

[Future product]

Acceptable-use specifics for future products will be added here.

7. Disclaimer of warranties

The Software is provided “as is.” To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that any GradSummit software product will be error-free or that automated outputs will be complete or correct.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, GradSummit’s total liability arising out of or relating to these terms or your use of the Software is limited to the amount you have paid to GradSummit in the 12 months preceding the event giving rise to the liability.

In no event shall GradSummit be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages — including, without limitation, lost profits, lost data, or rejected manuscripts.

9. Termination

You may terminate any subscription at any time per Section 3. We may terminate or suspend your access to any GradSummit software product if you materially breach these terms (for example, by sharing your license key publicly, or by using the Software to violate a third-party platform’s terms). On termination, your local copy of the Software stops working at the next license re-validation.

10. Privacy

Your privacy is governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, what we do with it, and what we never do, with per-product blocks matching the structure of these terms.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time, including adding new per-product blocks as we launch additional products. If we make material changes that affect paying customers of an existing product, we will notify you at the email address on file at least 14 days before the changes take effect. Continued use of the Software after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which GradSummit operates, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
