“Spent two semesters frozen at the analysis stage, Googling "which statistical test" at midnight and getting a different answer every time. The Master Decision Tree ended that cycle in ten minutes.”

Sound familiar?

The most common question in graduate statistics

“Which test do I use for my data?”
“My data failed the normality check. Now what?”
“I ran the test. I don't know which numbers to report.”
“I'm worried my committee will say I used the wrong test.”

Textbooks teach the maths and tutorials teach the clicks. What's missing is the bridge: from your question and your variables to the right test, the right checks and the right paragraph. That is what this workbook is.

How it works

Choose. Check. Report.

The same three steps for every analysis, from t-tests to regression.

Step 1

Choose the test

Classify your variables, then follow the decision tree: how many groups, how many outcomes, what level of measurement.

Step 2

Check the assumptions

Normality, homogeneity of variance, linearity, multicollinearity, and what to do when an assumption fails.

Step 3

Report it properly

Decode the output, calculate the effect size and fill in an APA 7 results paragraph.

What you will have

What you will be able to do

  • Classify every variable by type and role: IV, DV, covariate, moderator
  • Navigate a master decision tree to the correct test
  • Test assumptions step by step (Shapiro-Wilk, Q-Q plots, Levene's and more)
  • Read SPSS, JASP and R output and know exactly which numbers to report
  • Calculate effect sizes (Cohen's d, eta-squared, odds ratios) and plan power in G*Power
  • Use a parallel non-parametric path when your data break the assumptions
  • Write APA 7 results paragraphs for t-tests, ANOVA, regression and chi-square

Look inside

Every template comes with a worked example

Each test has its own path: the decision, the assumption checks in each package, and a results paragraph to fill in. These are real pages. Tap to enlarge.

Is it for you?

Built for applied quantitative analysis

It is for you if

  • You are writing a quantitative dissertation or thesis
  • You are a clinical or applied researcher running inferential tests
  • You feel anxious about statistics and want a clear, checkable process

It is not

  • A statistics textbook full of formulas
  • A replacement for a statistician on complex designs
  • Tied to one software package. It covers SPSS, JASP and R.

Questions

Before you buy

I use R, not SPSS. Will it work?

Yes. The assumption checks and output decoders cover SPSS, JASP and R side by side.

My data aren't normally distributed.

There is a parallel non-parametric decision path for when your data fail the parametric assumptions, with the matching results templates.

Does it cover regression?

Yes: multiple and binary logistic regression, as well as t-tests, ANOVA (including repeated-measures and factorial) and chi-square.

I still need my sample size.

The effect size and power worksheets cover planning in G*Power. For the full justification paragraph, see the Sample Size & Power Analysis Workbook or its template kit.

Stop guessing which test to use
